Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and posts commentary analysing portrayals women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards for her writing, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that analyzes how females are represented within popular culture's narratives. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she is also working on issues related to targeted harassment against women as well as other classes of the Internet world. Sarkeesian, who holds an MS in Political and Social Theory in the field of social and political thought from York University, is also popular as a public speech-maker. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She has been interested in gender issues and feminism since the age of a child. When she was in 2009, she was still studying at the university level, she launched the site Feminist Frequency. The site was about to launch a series of videos on the web that looked at gender roles in video games after she was the subject of harassment online. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it strengthened her determination as a feminist media critic. Her significant contributions in the feminist field have been recognized by numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that investigates the representation of women in popular culture.
