
DeWitt first performed on stage when she was 13. DeWitt graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. In her summer production she was enticed by the director to apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never met the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her role in the show Three's Co.'s run between 1977 and 1984 as Janet Wood. This was the first job she had when she was cast in the pilot episode that followed. Janet was also in an episode of the show The Ropers that she was in the year 1979. DeWitt was the last actor to appear in the series' 1984 finale. She then appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Then she ceased acting for a long time. The actress returned to acting in a part in the production of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. Then she was in the TV comedy Spring Fling! A character based on her, voiced and voiced by another actress, appeared in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. She was featured on an episode of Cybill and made an appearance on the final episode of Living Single.
